Hoesch's Six Goals Lead Dragons Past George Washington

Washington, D.C. - Emily Hoesch matched a career-high as she scored six goals to help Drexel to a 14-8 victory at George Washington in a women's lacrosse non-conference game. The victory upped the Dragons' (6-1) winning streak to six games while the Colonials (3-3) had their two-game winning streak snapped.
Hoesch opened the game's scoring less than one minute from the opening draw as she put the Dragons ahead on a free-position goal. The Colonials countered as the teams took turns scoring until Jessica Bill scored to give Drexel a 4-3 lead and spark a 4-0 run that featured two more goals from Hoesch. George Washington did pull a bit closer with the first half's final goal to send the game to the intermission with Drexel ahead, 7-4.
The Colonials scored two of the first three goals in the second period to cut the Drexel lead to just 8-6. Hoesch again led a Drexel charge as she scored two straight goals that spurred a six-goal run that put the game out of reach.
Drexel goalie Lauren LaBella was solid again in the cage. The nation's leader in goals against average and save percentage stopped 11 George Washington shots to improve her record to 6-0 on the season and 18-5 in her career. LaBella was key in the victory as she stopped seven of George Washington's eight free-position shots as the Colonials outshot the Dragons, 27-26, for the game. George Washington netminder, Caitlin Garman made seven saves and was charged with the loss.
The Dragons open their conference season on April 1 as Drexel will travel to Hofstra for a 1:00 p.m. game.
